These are also the sites at which lesion detection by conventional methods is most unsatisfactory. There is a need in general dental practice for simple efficient methods of detecting and recording quantitative data about the presence and severity of caries at the most susceptible sites and monitoring lesion response to intervention. Aim The aim of the present thesis was to evaluate a new laser fluorescence-based device, DIAGNOdent, for detection and quantification of carious lesions on occlusal surfaces and around the margins of restorations under both in vitro and in vivo conditions. Methods Part I: DIAGNOdent and occlusal caries (papers I and IV) The performance of the DIAGNOdent instrument was compared with the Electronic Caries Monitor (ECM), a method based on electrical conductance measurement, for in vitro detection and quantification of occlusal caries. In paper IV, DIAGNOdent readings on teeth scheduled for extraction were recorded before and after extraction, and during storage of the extracted teeth for three months. Lesion depth was determined by histopathological analysis in both papers. Part II: DIAGNOdent and secondary caries (papers II and III) Restored teeth were measured with DIAGNOdent along the margin of the restoration, under laboratory and clinical conditions. The restorations were then removed and visual-tactile examination was conducted by two observers. For the in vitro study, the teeth were hemisectioned and examined under a microscope.

Evaluation of Diagnodent Accuracy in Detecting Approximal Caries in Primary Molars
Introduction: Detection of caries lesions on approximal surfaces of posterior teeth is difficult, since wide contact points hamper direct visual inspection. Due to the importance of the early detection of dental caries, the aim of this study is to compare the performance of different methods (visual, bitewing radiography and DIAGNOdent) in detecting approximal caries in primary molars. Methods:...
متن کاملDetection and Characterization of Human Teeth Caries Using 2D Correlation Raman Spectroscopy
Background: Carious lesions are formed by a complex process of chemical interaction between dental enamel and its environment. They can cause cavities and pain, and are expensive to fix. It is hard to characterize in vivo as a result of environment factors and remineralization by ions in the oral cavity. Objectives: The development of a technique that gives early diagnosis which is non-invasi...
متن کاملEffect of Different Topical Agents on Remineralization of Early Enamel Lesion– an in vitro Study
Objective: This study aimed to compare the effect of using Casein phosphopeptide – amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) paste, Remin-Pro and Fluoride Varnish on remineralization of enamel lesions. Methods: In this experimental-in vitro study, 60 intact premolars and molars were used and flat enamel surfaces were prepared. The specimens were divided into 6 groups (N=10). After primary DIAGNO...
متن کاملDetection of Occlusal Carious Lesion using the SoproLife® Camera: A Systematic Review.
AIM The aim of this systematic review was to assess the in vivo scientific evidence regarding the ability of a recently developed light fluorescence device, SoproLife® (Sopro-Acteon group, La Ciotat, France) in detecting occlusal carious lesions. The PubMed database was searched for in vivo trials that evaluated the validity of the SoproLife® camera for the detection of occlusal carious lesions...
متن کاملمقایسه دقت فیلمهای Primax و Insight و تصاویر دیجیتالی CMOS-APS در تشخیص پوسیدگیهای جانبی دندانهای خلفی به صورت آزمایشگاهی
Introduction: Radiography is one of the most important diagnostic methods for evaluation of dental caries. On the other hand, the least amount of radiation along with high quality is a main gold standard. The purpose of this study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of Primax, Insight Radiographic films, and direct digital images (Schick CMOS-APS), in detection of interproximal natural Carie...
